HISTORY
The first Peace March took place on october 31st 2001. It was just a month and a half ago that the planes had crashed into The Twin Towers in New York, and just a few weeks after the invasion of Afghanistan. People feared that World War III was near, and ”all” conversations at this time, was related to this topic. And: how can we, as individuals, make a difference?
This was also the issue of the discussions that Jan-Kåre Fjeld, the founder of The Peace March in Fredrikstad, participated in four days earlier. It was there and then the promise was given: a Peace March would be arranged every Wednesday from the first one coming, to be continued ”forever”.
At present, The Peace March in Fredrikstad (2001 – 2009) is soon to ”celebrate” its 8th anniversary. Several thousand of Fredrikstads citizens have, once or several times, participated in these marches that now has exceeded more than 400.
